BY THE MODERNIZATION OF THE ELECTRICAL FILTERS TO A BETTER ENVIRONMENT AND QUALITY OF COKE

Project of the modernization of electrical filters 3 and 4 for coking gas treatment is the investment of company GIKIL of 678,219.00 KM. It was initiated on September 2011, and now it was successfully implemented and commissioned in Lukavac’s company. The project aim is to achieve the full efficiency of coke gas purification according to designed parameters, which ultimately allows the improvement of entire technological process in facilities of “Condensation” and “Coking”. This will directly affect the quality of coke, and indirectly will be reflected in the reduction of negative impacts on environment pollution, which is certainly one of the priority elements of the project.

When the electrical filters commissioned in this company during the eighties, they did not have the level of automation, measuring and regulation as they have now. Today, in addition to electrical filters, there are built in online oxygen analysers that at any time measure oxygen content and manage the operation of electrical filters. If the concentration of oxygen occurs at a certain percentage, electrical filters automatically exclude or include and give signal to be executed a control. Then, it should be checked possible causes such as leakage, opening or closing of some of the oven tops on the battery or pipeline during cleaning of tar from pipelines etc.

The benefits of implemented project are cleaner coke oven gas, and easier work on the facilities "Condensation" and "Coking". Coke oven gas is normally used as a fuel for combustion in the coke-oven battery and power plant “Energana”. Problem that have encountered in the past in GIKIL was constant and frequent cleaning of gas collectors, nozzles and changing of rings because of the fact that in coke gas always remains little amount of tar. Now, with the modernization of the electrical filters, frequencies of above mentioned cleaning will be drastically reduced due to the lower percentage of tar extractions of 10 times i.e. from 0.65 grams per normal cubic meter to 0.06 grams per normal cubic meter and lower naphthalene extractions of 5 times, which will be generated by work of electrical filters. On the other side, additional 339 kilos of tar will be achieved in the production process on monthly basis which were previously lost.
