Eminent experts in the field of ecology from our company showed once again what  GIKIL is doing in terms of environmental protection.

Certified reduction of „greenhouse“ gases (CDM project)

According to Hana Bilbija, engineer of technology from GIKIL's investments sector, this company wll launch a new CDM project - the afforestation.

"This project should provide specific benefits to GIKIL, entire region and planet Earth. Specifically, the implementation of reforestation will facilitate the reduction of C02. The first phase of this project is related to the afforestation of all GIKIL's free spaces and it is 17.5 acres," said Bilbija.

GIKIL is categorical to solve environmental problems following European standards within three to four years. Thereby, the company has invested significant funds in the automation and modernization of  Fertilizer Plant in order to reduce nitrous oxide emissions (NO2) in the atmosphere.

Currently, the company is in the process of installing the secondary catalyst in this Plant. Registration and development projects are taking place according to the rules of the international system of trade emissions -  by the Protocol from Kyoto.

The Kyoto Protocol was adopted in Kyoto, Japan, organized by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) on 11 December 1997. By this Protocol is envisaged the reduction of six greenhouse gases (GHG): carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, sulphur hexafluoride, hydrofluorocarbon and perfluorocarbon).

Bosnia and Herzegovina is a signatory of this agreement and with this agreement  is possible the economic development of transit countries. This is known as the Clean Development Mechanism, and carbon credits are known as "Carbon Emission Reductions" (CERs). Accordingly, with this project is possible to sell the reduction of greenhouse gases. The budget is worth about 70 millions of american dollars.

"We believe that GIKIL works according to  requests of non-governmental sector. This presentation refers on afforestation of 100 000 of seedling that will reduce emissions of greenhouse gases. We think that all companies from the Tuzla Canton area should go on this way in order to strengthen forest systems," said Muhamed Omerović, President of the Association "EKO Zeleni" of Tuzla Canton.

On this occasion, Mr. Omerović gave the "ecological letter" to Mr. Guntupalli Jagannadham, Managing Director of Global Ispat Koksna Industrija Lukavac. This letter conveys planetary ecological thoughts that indicate the importance of joint actions in environmental protection.

"This is an excellent opportunity to exchange opinions  because of the fact that in the last two months we are performing daily revision which is related to ecology. Therefore,  I can say that we are on a good way and we will do everything possible to direct GIKIL on a "green route". We are aware that whatever we are doing for the ecology we are doing for  benefit of all of us, our company, region and the world. I am very pleased that we have the opportunity to hear opinion and suggestions from representatives of Non Governmental Sector that will certainly even more improve GIKIL’s concerns for environment ", said Mr. Guntupalli Jagannadham.
